Rick & Morty surprised fans during the April Fools' Day broadcast special streamed on YouTube by announcing the release date of Season 8.

Long-time viewers know how much the sci-fi adventure sitcom enjoys pulling pranks on its audience on April 1st. This year, Rick & Morty fans got a special treat with a sneak peek at the upcoming season.

What We Know So Far About Rick & Morty Season 8

Rick & Morty is coming back sooner than expected, as announced during the April Fools' broadcast on Adult Swim and YouTube.

Season 8 is set to air on May 25, 2025, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim in the US. Max and Hulu will begin streaming the new episodes on September 1.

The update was revealed at the end of the broadcast, which featured a Broadway-style reenactment of the series’ most iconic moments.

Fans were delighted with a sneak peek, showing the alcoholic genius scientist, Rick, and his meek sidekick grandson, Morty, stepping through a portal into a place that appears to celebrate Easter.

True to the show’s fast-paced and chaotic nature, mayhem unfolds within the first minute of their arrival in the unfamiliar world.

Returning for the second time are Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, who voice Rick and Morty, roles formerly portrayed by Justin Roiland. Fans can also expect to hear Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke in Season 8.

Co-creator and executive producer Dan Harmon, along with showrunner Scott Marder, returns to lead the series. They describe Season 8 as:

"Rick and Morty is back for season 8! Life has meaning again! Anything is possible! Look out for adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Maybe Butter Bot will get a new task? Whatever happens, you can’t keep Rick and Morty down for long. People have tried!”

What to Expect in Rick and Morty Season 8: A Possible Time-Traveling Episode?

Rick and Morty ended Season 7 with a revelation in the Fear No Mort episode, which explored Morty’s fear of being abandoned by Rick.

Fans are now wondering what’s next for the series, especially since Rick’s greatest enemy, Rick Prime, has been defeated, and he has finally begun letting go of his obsession with Diane.

It turns out the series has already hinted at what’s in store for the upcoming season through concept art posted on Instagram in early March.

Up until now, Rick, Morty, and the rest of the characters have always appeared at the same age in the current timeline since Season 1. However, an adult Summer somehow made her way into one of the concept art pieces.

This might suggest that time travel will be featured into one of Season 8’s episodes, a concept the creators previously avoided because they believed it could be tricky for the series’ plot.

While other characters — aside from Rick, who has often expressed his distaste for it — have traveled through time before, the new season might be the first to fully explore this well-known sci-fi trope.

Additionally, rumors suggest that the Citadel being rebuilt by Constellation Rick, considering his appearance in the upcoming installment was also teased in the post.
