Star Wars fans might not be quite aware of the future of the galaxy far, far away now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to premiere next month, but they do know that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson still has a new Star Wars trilogy to work on.
Speaking in an interview with Game Spot after a special presentation of his most recent film Knives Out at this year's Fantastic Fest, Johnson opened up about his plans for his movie, giving hopeful answers when asked about the future of star wars.
"I'm still talking to Lucasfilm about it," TheLast Jedi director said when asked if he could confirm anything about the future of the franchise.
Sure, that might not seem like a definite answer, but Johnson did previously say that he was still on for his new set of Star Wars films before. Perhaps Lucasfilm is still waiting for the reception of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker so that it can decide the timeline of the next two Star Wars trilogies – after all, Disney does want Star Wars to slow down a bit.
Johnson is pretty sure what he wants for his new trilogy though.
"For me, I'm just a Star Wars fan," Johnson told the publication, "What I want is for people to sit down and watch something we've never seen in the Star Wars universe before. Tell me a great story, something that's going to make me feel like I'm 10 years old again watching the original trilogy. I feel like that's what we all want when the lights go down."
We wonder whether the filmmaker's new Star Wars trilogy will have the same feel as the original when it gets released. Let's wait and see.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
