Muzan's demons are depicted as malevolent creatures who are consumed by their desire for power, long life, and to bring pain to humans. Not all of them are bad, as some redeemable demons in Demon Slayer exhibit good qualities.
As Demon Slayer season 4 airs, the conversation about the redeemable demons in the series is making the rounds online.
After all, these demons also have sympathetic backstories that led them to where they are now.
Nezuko Kamado Retains Her Humanity and Empathy
First on the list is none other than Nezuko Kamado herself, Tanjiro's sister and Zenitsu's love interest.
After Muzan attacked the Kamado family, Nezuko turned into a demon, and Tanjiro had to work very hard to figure out how to make her human again.
Unlike other demons, Nezuko has the intention of resisting her demonic instincts.
She tries her best to endure her desire to feed on humans and instead chooses to fight with Tanjiro and his friends against her kind.
So far, Nezuko has overcome the sun, bringing her one step closer to becoming a human again.
Lady Tamayo Refuses to Follow Muzan
Similar to Nezuko, Lady Tamayo vowed to never consume humans again after she caused the deaths of her loved ones after Muzan turned her into a demon.
While she's not fighting side by side with the Demon Slayer Corps, she's willing to cooperate with them to find a cure that can turn demons into humans again, reversing the effects of Muzan's blood.
She refuses to follow Muzan, going so far as to research for years in the hopes of making her vision come true.
Yushiro Is Willing to Work with Tanjiro
To further Lady Tamayo's research, Yushiro has no problem cooperating with demon slayers such as Tanjiro, despite his initial suspicions about him.
Similar to Lady Tamayo, Yushiro has retained his free will and humanity, with no interest in attacking or feeding on humans.
He only wants to be by Lady Tamayo's side, supporting her cause, no matter what happens.
If he were to choose which side to support, Yushiro would surely cooperate with the demon slayers rather than the demon king.
Rui Seeks Genuine Familial Bond
Rui, also known as the lower rank five demon, had a lot of regrets in his life.
He regrets killing his family, who cared for him when he was a frail and sickly human, resulting in his desire to have a genuine family that will fill the gap in his heart.
Muzan took advantage of Rui's desire to have a strong body, turning a once innocent and hopeful boy into a cruel and greedy demon.
If he only retained his humanity like the rest of the other demons on this list, he would have been a great ally to Tanjiro and Nezuko.
Rui just wanted to be loved and accepted by his family, but his misguided actions led him down an unfortunate path.
Gyutaro and Daki Are Not Inherently Evil
Gyutaro and Daki are core characters in the Entertainment District Arc, where we see them fighting against Uzui Tengen, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and even Nezuko.
While they are out for revenge against those who wronged them, they are not inherently evil but rather victims of a cruel society and their difficult circumstances.
They have redeeming qualities, such as their strong sibling bond, which highlights their humanity.
As they fight the demon slayers, they have moments of reflection and regret, marking a return to their human emotions.
Akaza Lets His Demon Instincts Go
Akaza is perhaps one of the most loyal to Muzan, trying to gain his favor at any opportunity he gets, making him irredeemable to some people.
He seeks power more than anyone else, gets mad at other demons who don't acknowledge him, and so on.
Despite being irredeemable in many aspects, Akaza's character development in the series proves that he can still possess redeemable qualities.
From his desire to seek atonement to his final moments, you will surely empathize with Akaza.
Can you think of any more demons who have redeemable qualities in Demon Slayer?
