Red Heart will offer a new historical K-drama story between Lee Joon and Kang Han Na’s characters once it premieres.
This year, How to Buy a Friend and Manhole director Yoo Young Eun will serve a new plotline to historical K-drama fans by telling the rollercoaster story between a king – who needs to leave the woman she loves to survive -- and a commoner – who becomes queen to live.
Before sharing Red Heart with people, its creators released new stills that feature Lee Joon’s King Lee Tae and Kang Han Na’s Yoo Jung.

Red Heart’s New Stills Show Difference Between Two Lead Characters
In Red Heart, Lee Joon plays King Lee Tae’s role, a ruler who wants to have an absolute monarchy regardless of the route he takes. He eventually has to choose between his kingdom and love after having a political battle against his former lover, Yoo Jung.
Meanwhile, Kang Han Na is the free-spirited Yoo Jung who is more mature than expected. Although she already has everything, she experiences hardships in her already-disastrous life due to palace affairs she encounters after meeting King Lee Tae.
The K-drama shared more perspective on the duo’s characters, showing the differences between King Lee Tae and Yoo Jung’s attitudes.

The monarch looks worried and anxious, while Yoo Jung maintains her smiling face as they look at each other and maintain eye contact. Aside from the difference in their approach toward each other, they also show sadness and joy, which seemingly hints at the heartbreaking past they had as lovers.
“From the first shoot, Lee Joon and Kang Han Na showed off their perfect teamwork by performing their characters’ psychology in a meticulous and dense way. Please show lots of anticipation and interest in the romance of the century and Lee Joon and Kang Han Na that will show in ‘Red Heart’ that will show why the lovers became tense,” the producers explained.
Why Lee Joon’s Character in Red Heart Look Tense?
Lee Joon already gave a little information as to why his character looked concerned and bothered.
During the cast members’ script reading, the actor revealed that his character seemingly has different images to show.
“He’s the king. He’s the king, but he’s a character who dreams of getting revenge against his family. I thought of him as two-faced,” he said.
Red Heart will explain his story further once it airs this year.
