The two live-action GI Joe movies are nothing to write home about but they did have a few cool things about them, like decent action scenes and cool costumes. Unsurprisingly, Hasbro will be returning to the franchise sometime in the future, but don't expect to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson return in any form. Sadly, we also won't see Ray Park return as Snake-Eyes as a report says they will be starting fresh for the character's solo spinoff.
According to an interview with GI Joe producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura, the Snake-Eyes solo movie will be a prequel to the previous films, so they will need someone younger than Park, who is currently 44. Why age suddenly matters is odd since the character never takes off his mask and swears to a code of silence, though this movie might take place before he took this oath.
It seems like they are going the Bumblebee method, releasing a prequel that will secretly fix all of the mistakes from previous movies and maybe even kickstart a reboot. Everyone is hoping that the upcoming Transformers movie is a reboot and throws away everything related to the Michael Bay films but it's being built up as a prequel. We'll have to see if the same thing will happen to the GI Joe movies.
No release date for the Snake-Eyes movie has been revealed. Bumblebee comes out on December 21.
