The John Wick franchise is back with the release of the spinoff film Ballerina, which will center on a new heroine played by Ana de Armas.

Set before the events of the fourth film, the new installment focuses on Eve Macarro, a ballerina-turned-assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, as she seeks revenge for her father's death.

In celebration of the release of Ballerina, here is our ranking of all John Wick movies from worst to best.

While John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is ranked last, it doesn't mean that it's a bad film. It's still way better than most contemporary action movies, and it still has some of the highs of the franchise.

The film is another showcase of grandiose action set pieces that are exciting to watch and highly choreographed fight sequences that elevate the franchise. It also added more mythology to the world of John Wick that would solidify this as a universe that is worth investing in.

3. John Wick: Chapter 2

The success of the first film led to Chad Stahelski and his team going all in with their storytelling in John Wick: Chapter 2. This installment planted the seeds for the full potential of what the franchise could be as they were given more resources to play with.

It helps that the film has a great antagonist and a memorable assassin character played by Common. The cliffhanger ending also paved the way for the more epic story that unfolds in the next installments.

2. John Wick

The first John Wick is not just the beginning of an epic action franchise, but it also changed the Hollywood action genre. It introduced a new style in action movie storytelling that would be emulated in the years after.

The entire franchise will not exist without Stahelski and David Leitch's visionary story of revenge and Keanu Reeves' charismatic performance as the titular assassin in the first film, which was made with less money and no promotions.

1. John Wick: Chapter 4

The franchise went bigger and bolder in John Wick: Chapter 4, not just because of its three-hour runtime, but also its epic globe-throttling and action-packed ballistic storytelling that explored the full potential of the franchise.

The film also featured several breathtaking action sequences that made audiences drop their jaw and be amazed at how they managed to pull off the set pieces in an effortless manner. It's hard to say whether the franchise can go higher than this, but it certainly felt like it has reached its peak.
