The curse of starring in Disney’s live-action Snow White has seemingly haunted the career of Rachel Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot in a never-ending battle.

Despite the on-set feuds to social media disputes, Rachel has packed up, ready to move on from her Disney career.

A recent development has pulled the Golden Globe-winning actress from the swamp to star in her next film project alongside MCU star Marisa Tomei.

Rachel Zegler’s Next Film is Based on a True Story

The West Side Story star has finally climbed aboard a different station: a comedy-drama titled She Gets It From Me.

Rachel Zegler is set to star as the daughter of Tomei in the U.K.-based production. Preparing for their highly anticipated mother-daughter duo act, this film is like no other true story-based adaptation.

According to the synopsis, Nicky’s (to be played by Zegler) engagement celebration turns into a search for her ex-punk rocker birth mother, Charlotte (Tomei), calling it the story of “an anarchic mother and daughter journey to reconnect.”

German filmmaker Julia von Heinz, who will be helming the project, details that what makes the story immersive is that the screenwriter Jay Reiss’ script “captures family dynamics at their most authentic: absurd yet profound, messy yet meaningful. The collision of two worlds creates comedy that cuts deep because it’s so honest.”

As of writing, She Gets It From Me has no release date yet.

Zegler has previously starred as the talented Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation of West Side Story, the rebellious singer Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games franchise, but most recently, her controversial role of being the fairest princess Snow White in the live-action reimagining of its own classic animated film.

However, Rachel’s newest movie deal could officially move her forward from the whole Snow White disaster to prove her versatility and creativity as a rising artist.

Ever since landing her lead role for Snow White in 2021, Rachel has faced countless criticisms over the casting, and it didn’t help that Gal Gadot’s involvement made things worse for the Disney adaptation to make its mark in cinema.

Apart from these co-stars’ feud, Rachel has been speaking out against the House of Mouse’s wishes, especially when she slammed Donald Trump and his supporters in the US presidential election.

It would be interesting to see how Rachel puts her twist into her role as Nicky in a true-to-life story for once.

In the words of added producer Jen Dana, "Rachel always brings a brilliant depth and humanity to her roles, and we are so excited to continue to showcase her versatility and humor as an actress."

In fact, she is also growing out her musical resume as she will also be starring in a limited run of Evita in London.

The limited run revival will begin previews on June 14, open on July 1, and close September 6. Stay tuned for more updates on this story!
