Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 are officially slated to premiere on the big screens the way Quentin Tarantino wanted it: as one full movie under the title, The Whole Bloody Affair.
Here's why the theatrical release took this long to get here and why Tarantino decided to premiere the entire four-hour movie anyway.
Why Did Kill Bill's Theatrical Release Take So Long?

Kill Bill had long been debated to be classified as two separate Tarantino films, but the director begs to differ. While both volumes were counted as his eleventh films, Tarantino considers them his tenth.
Previously, he acknowledged that they are "technically correct" to presume Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2 are each their own since they have their opening and ending credits, but he told ReelBlend, "But since I made it as one movie, and I wrote it as one movie, that's just some chicanery that I did in editing."
He also noted that "it works really well" as two separate films, "I don't think it would've been as popular as a four-hour movie," which might just explain why the 2003 and 2004 flicks took this long to make their theatrical release the way he envisioned it.
"I literally had a guy say that to me," Tarantino added, "It was one of those diamond bullets. Every once in a while, somebody says something to you that, 'OK, I can't unhear that.' And he goes, 'Look, Quentin, here's the thing, man. My uncle Artie would love this movie. I mean, he would love it. He wouldn't love it at four hours.'"
But guess what happened?

"I wrote and directed it as one movie—and I'm so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie," Tarantino wrote in a statement about the release, "The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!"
Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 will receive their first-ever nationwide theatrical release from Lionsgate, with the rollout including presentations in 70mm and 35mm.
The Whole Bloody Affair removes the cliffhanger ending from Vol. 1 as well as the recap opener in Vol. 2 to bring the pair together as a single cohesive storyline. They were box office successes, grossing more than $330 million worldwide between them.
Catch Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 in The Whole Bloody Affair out in theaters on December 5.
