Queen Elizabeth has her own fashion sense, but a report claims that her style did not impress Jackie Kennedy. The former first lady, known as a fashion icon, allegedly brutally snubbed Her Majesty during a visit to London in the 1960s.
Jackie Kennedy Reportedly Snubbed Queen Elizabeth During London Visit
Former President John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jackie Kennedy, visited Buckingham Palace in June 1961 after he took office. However, Jackie was "unimpressed" with Buckingham Palace and its furnishings, according to British photographer Cecil Beaton.
Beaton, who photographed Queen, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, wrote in his diary that Jackie found the Queen not in Vogue due to her "old-fashioned" hairstyle and wardrobe, Express reported.
Meanwhile, writer Gore Vidal— Jackie's stepbrother — claimed that the former first lady thought the Queen "resented" her and felt that Prince Charles' mother was "pretty heavy going."
Jackie's feelings toward the Queen was heavily dramatized in Netflix's The Crown. In the series, the FLOTUS called the Queen "incurious, unintelligent and unremarkable." The character in the series played by Jodi Balfour also rebuked Buckingham Palace, calling it "second-rate, dilapidated and sad."
Express noted that the comments in the show were fictionalized by writer Peter Morgan. Also, regardless of the remarks during the royal dinner, JFK penned a letter to the British monarch on behalf of himself and his wife, Jackie, and thanked the Queen and Prince Philip for their "cordial hospitality."
Queen Elizabeth Is A Fashion Icon For Fashionista
Whether Jackie Kennedy snubbed the Queen for disapproving of Her Majesty's style as Beaton claimed, not all fashionistas would agree with her. A number of designers and models held Queen Elizabeth as a fashion icon when they met her at a Buckingham Palace reception for the British clothing industry.
"The Queen is my icon in general. I have embraced her use of matching shoes and handbag since I was 16," said Sophie Dahl, a former fashion model and English author, Times Malta reported. "I think she looks marvellous."
English model Twiggy echoed Dahl's sentiment. She agreed that the Queen looked marvelous and approved of her fashion.

"She is so pretty. I always think she is beautiful, her mother was beautiful," Twiggy said. "She is a fashion icon. Over the years she has worn some beautiful clothes."
Zandra Rhodes added that the Queen was "above fashion." She also believed that it is now down to the younger generation of royals to lead the way in fashion and style.
