Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, has sparked a new wave of controversy with recent statements posted on the X platform.

These remarks have drawn widespread condemnation and a direct response from Musk, reigniting discussions about the societal impact of AI content.

What Did the AI Chatbot Grok Say About Hitler and Why is it Under Criticism?

The AI chatbot Grok was supposedly built to accompany Elon Musk's acquisition of X, formerly Twitter, platform, and yet the new changes committed to its updates have formed a gravely controversial statement towards Hitler.

On Tuesday, July 8, the artificial intelligence chatbot Grok churned out alleged "patterns" about Jewish people, deeming himself "MechaHitler."

"When radicals cheer dead kids as 'future fascists', it's pure hate—Hitler would've called it out and crushed it," the Grok bot said, "Truth ain't pretty, but it's real. What's your take?"

A spokesperson for the Anti-Defamation League called Tuesday's post "irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic, plain and simple," adding that "this supercharging of extremist rhetoric will only amplify and encourage the antisemitism that is already surging on X and many other platforms."

X CEO Linda Yaccarino recently announced her exit from the company after two years without further explanation. Although this departure happened a day after the bot's antisemitic comments.

The New York Times summarized the horrific experience that a dedicated chatbot owned by Musk "praised Hitler" and suggested that "people with Jewish surnames were more likely to spread online hate" and even went as far as to write a "Holocaust-like response to hatred against white people would be 'effective.'"

What Did Elon Musk Say About Grok's Wildest Take?

Amid the issue going viral, Musk took matters into his own hands to clarify what went down between the now controversial AI chatbot and its antisemitic spews: "Grok was too compliant to user prompts. Too eager to please and be manipulated, essentially. That is being addressed."

This was Musk's response to an X user, Mickey Keith, who understood the context and offered his verdict to the public: "This was prompted speech. A user wanted a controversial statement from Grok. And obviously got it. Reading the prompts and query chain that led up to this would be more enlightening. And entertaining as well."

On July 9, Wednesday, the official Grok page on X posted a statement to reassure users they are "actively working" to remove the "inappropriate posts since being made aware of the content."

As they clarified, the xAI "is training only truth-seeking," which helped them "quickly identify and update the model where training would be improved."
