Princess Diana was reportedly tricked into doing an interview with Martin Bashir for Panorama in 1995. Even though it’s been 22 years since their conversation aired, the interview is still making headlines after it was confirmed that Bashir lied to the Princess of Wales so that she would grant his request to have a discussion with her.
Last week, The BBC also issued an apology to Prince William and Prince Harry’s former nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, after she was accused of having an affair with Prince Charles during the interview. The former nanny was also accused of aborting her child with the heir to the throne.
With this, it only seems timely to revisit some of Princess Diana’s most shocking revelations during her 1995 interview with Bashir.
Princess Diana Did Not Want To Become The Future Queen Of Britain
Since she was once married to Prince Charles, Princess Diana was supposed to become the future queen consort. But even before she passed away in 1997, she and Prince Charles already ended their marriage. As such, she was no longer entitled to becoming queen consort.
Princess Diana didn’t seem to mind because, according to her, she never saw herself as a future queen.
“I'd like to be a queen of people's hearts, in people's hearts, but I don't see myself being Queen of this country. I don't think many people will want me to be Queen. Actually, when I say many people I mean the establishment that I married into because they have decided that I'm a non-starter. Because I do things differently because I don't go by a rule book, because I lead from the heart, not the head, and albeit that's got me into trouble in my work, I understand that. But someone's got to go out there and love people and show it,” she said (via People).

Princess Diana Tried To Take Her Own Life Because The Royal Family Didn’t Support Her
Princess Diana also candidly revealed that she once tried to take her own life because she was already at the end of her rope. The late royal said that she felt so down because no one within the royal household listened to her.
“For instance, you have so much pain inside yourself that you try and hurt yourself on the outside because you want help, but it's the wrong help you're asking for. People see it as crying wolf or attention-seeking, and they think because you're in the media all the time you've got enough attention, inverted commas. But I was actually crying out because I wanted to get better in order to go forward and continue my duty and my role as wife, mother, and Princess of Wales. So yes, I did inflict upon myself. I didn't like myself, I was ashamed because I couldn't cope with the pressures,” she said.
Princess Diana Suffered From Bulimia And Post-Partum Depression
It was also during her interview with Bashir that the Princess of Wales confessed to suffering from bulimia.
“Rampant bulimia, if you can have rampant bulimia, and just a feeling of being no good at anything and being useless and hopeless and failed in every direction,” she said.
The mom of two also called her bulimia the secret disease that she had to deal with for many years.
And when it came to her post-partum depression, she said that there were some mornings wherein she didn’t feel like getting out of bed.
Princess Diana also said that the royal family did not know how to help her with her post-partum depression because she might have been the first royal to experience this issue.
