Prince William went through such a difficult time in his life when he was just a teenager. At the age of 15, the Duke of Cambridge lost his mom, Princess Diana following a fatal car crash in Paris.
Prince William was never photographed crying following his mom’s death, but it was obvious that he struggled to make sense of it all.
Over the years, Prince William learned how to cope with Princess Diana’s death. And now that he’s much older, he’s found an unlikely ally in Robert Irwin. The 18-year-old lost his dad, Steve Irwin, when he was just 2 years old.
Prince William Is Proud Of Robert Irwin
New Idea, in its Jan. 10 issue, claimed that Prince William is very proud of the kind of young man Robert turned out to be even without his dad around.
Prince William and Robert recently appeared on a video call for the Earthshot Prize and the former praised the latter.
“Honestly, I was a big fan of your dad and I am so sorry. He’d be very proud of you, Roberts, and what you continued. Your passion is second only to his,” Prince William said.
Prince William Still Remembers What It Was Like Hearing About Robert Irwin’s Death
An unnamed source said that the Duke of Cambridge remembers hearing the news of Steve’s death following a stingray attack. And he couldn’t help but recall what it was like hearing about Princess Diana’s death.
“William remembers hearing the news about Steve’s tragic death, and his heart went out to Bindi and Robert, who was so young at the time. He couldn’t have known then that one day he’d be friends with Steve’s son. It’s not shown in the public Zoom video, but they had a much longer conversation and have remained in touch since,” the unnamed source said.
Prince William is also, reportedly, grateful to Robert for helping him with the Earthshot Prize. The Cambridges and the Irwins have allegedly become so close to the point that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis already met Bindi Irwin’s daughter, Grace.
Prince William’s Dad Is Close To Terri Irwin
Prince Charles is also, reportedly, very close to the Irwin family matriarch, Terri.
“Charles catching up with Terri has turned into a lasting friendship across two generations so far, and who knows – as the Cambridge kids and little Grace grow up, maybe it’ll span into a third,” the unnamed source concluded.

Prince William Gushes Over Robert Irwin
In October, Prince William also praised Robert for almost being optimistic especially during challenging times.
“I felt that a bit of optimism and hope is what we needed. Showing people that there are solutions. That there is a way forward what was going to be needed, and so that's how the Earthshot Prize sort of spun out from there. I'm really glad that I get to hopefully inspire my generation and my fellow younger Australians to ignite and start that spark of passion,” Prince William gushed.
But even if there’s proof that Prince William and Robert are close, there’s no indication that Prince William and Irwin are still mourning the death of their respective parents.
