Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seemingly accused the royal family of racism during their interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. A royal commentator debunked their allegations in a new interview.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Wrong To Accuse Royal Family Of Racism?

Royal commentator Michael Cole weighed in on the racism allegations against the royal family after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's sit-down tell-all with Oprah Winfrey last year. During the interview, they alleged that a member of the royal family raised concern over their unborn child's skin color.

The revelations sparked racism allegations against the royals. However, Cole doesn't think that royals are racist.

"I think the comment on that has already been made by his older brother William when he shouted out: 'This is very much not a racist family,'" he told GB News, Express reported. "And I think I do agree with that. Racism was anathema to the late Queen as early as 1960. She was dancing a dance which I think was called the High Life with Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana."

She noted how the Queen danced with Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu in Zambia and interacted with different people from different nations and ethnicities during her reign.

"How could she be a racist? She was the monarch of many overseas realms, her people, her countries," he continued.

He added that the late monarch fought tooth and nail to preserve the Commonwealth, which aims to establish the member states as "free and equal."

"If anybody did a tremendous work throughout her life to bring together the various races and religions of the Commonwealth, I think nobody did more than the Queen," he continued.

"She really believed in the efficacy and value of the Commonwealth, which was set up and was the lasting legacy of her father, King George VI, in 1947. She continued that work and she really believed in it. For her and the Royal Family, the Commonwealth wasn't just somewhere warm to go in the winter. It was something she believed in and she wanted Prince Charles to carry on."

Prince Harry and Markle didn't name the royal who made the alleged racist remark. However, the Duke of Sussex clarified that the person was neither his grandmother Queen Elizabeth nor his grandfather Prince Philip.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Awarded For Calling Royal Family Racist?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to receive this year's Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award. However, the announcement raised eyebrows because many felt that they were given the award after accusing the royal family of racism.

Kerry Kennedy previously explained why Prince Harry and Markle are among the recipients of the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award. According to her, they exemplified "moral courage" against injustice in their interview with Winfrey.

"And this is what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have done. They went to the oldest institution in U.K. history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn't have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health," Kennedy said, People reported.

"They knew that if they did this, there would be consequences, that they would be ostracized, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it. They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn't live with themselves if they didn't question this authority. I think they have been heroic in taking this step."
