Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are likely to receive an invitation to King Charles' coronation in May. However, the public might not welcome them to the event.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Will Be Booed At King Charles' Coronation?
Grant Harrold, King Charles' former personal butler for seven years, from 2004 to 2011, spoke about the royal family and how Prince Harry's book Spare might have affected the members of the firm and the upcoming coronation. In his opinion, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might still come, but it will be awkward, and the people might boo them.
"Would people boo? And the last thing the monarchy wants is people booing at a coronation," Grant said, Showbiz CheatSheet reported.
"There might be a decision where they say it's best they don't come … I think it will be sad if they aren't there, but then again it's going to be very awkward."
"It could even overshadow the coronation … I think with what’s all happened, [Harry’s] going to be painted with the same brush that his [great-great] uncle King Edward VIII was painted with where people didn’t really want him to have anything to do with the royal family after what happened in his past as well."
Prince Harry And Meghan Markel Booed During Platinum Jubilee's Thanksgiving Service
In June 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flew to the United Kingdom to join the royal family for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebration. When they arrived at St. Paul's Cathedral for the National Service of Thanksgiving in honor of Her Majesty, they were welcomed with a mix of cheers and boos.
At the time, many were not impressed with the Sussexes because of their interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they made several allegations against the royal family. They claimed that a member of the firm raised concern about their unborn child, sparking racist allegations against the royals.
Sky News commentator Rhiannon Mills believed the boos were due to the royal couple snubbing Queen Elizabeth.
"Consistently they have said how they love and respect the Queen," Mills said as quoted by Express. "But however the fact it was suggested they did not tell her about their plans to step away from royal life I think was seen as an enormous snub to a woman that so many of us hold in such high regard."
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Urged To Skip Coronation
Harrold believed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's attendance at King Charles' coronation would only make the event awkward after all their attacks against the royal family. He speculated that many would question their guts if they turned up.
"People would be going, why have they turned up? I still think it’s very likely he could turn up because it is his father but it would be very awkward and I don’t know if Meghan would come."

Royal historian Hugo Vickers, a friend of the royal family, believed that the Sussex would still receive an invitation. However, for him, it would be best if they skipped the event.
"I do hope Harry won't come, as it could deflect from the ceremony. After all, that's why they don't invite crowned Kings and Queens to a coronation," he told Page Six.
