Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are in Northern Ireland for their royal tour. Earlier this week, they met up with hundreds of schoolchildren and visited key places, including the Lissan House and the Loughgall Hedgehog Rescue.
But during Prince Charles and Camilla’s royal tour of Ireland, eagle-eyed royal fans couldn’t help but notice an important detail: the heir to the throne’s fingers are reddish and swollen. This isn’t something new because even Prince Charles once referred to it as “sausage fingers,” but it’s still concerning for some people.
In 2019, a similar thing happened during Prince Charles’ royal tour of India. He visited the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara Sikh Temple at the time and had to enter the sacred place barefoot. Photos of Prince Charles from his royal engagement three years ago showed how swollen his feet were.
Prince Charles’ ‘Sausage Fingers’ Could Be Caused By Different Conditions
According to Express, there are various reasons why Prince Charles may have swollen hands and feet. It is reportedly possible for the condition to be caused by extreme heat or the effects of a long-haul flight. After all, the lack of movement and changes in atmospheric conditions while onboard a plane can result in swelling and water retention in certain parts of the body.
It is also possible for Prince Charles to be suffering from a condition known as Oedema, which can be the result of staying in the same position for hours. The condition may also be caused by the consumption of too much salt or the intake of certain types of medicines.
Royal Fans Worried About Prince Charles
Last year, Woman and Home revealed that royal fans have become so concerned about Prince Charles’ condition to the point that they have been searching for information online. As such, the terms “Prince Charles fingers” and “Prince Charles sausage fingers” have become one of the most popular searched terms on Google.
Throughout the past 12 months, the search terms also became the most-searched query about Prince Charles. And “Prince Charles fingers” averaged 33,000 Google searches every month.
According to Healthline, sausage fingers relate to a medical condition known as Dactylitis.
“Dactylitis is severe inflammation of the finger and toe joints. The puffy nature of the inflammation can make your digits look like sausages,” the publication explained.
And the most common cause is psoriatic arthritis.

Prince Charles Could Be Suffering From Dactylitis
According to the NHS, Dactylitis could worsen as a person ages. But if it is treated early, its progression can be slowed down and permanent joint damage can also be prevented.
Prince Charles’ undisclosed condition has also resulted in the spreading of false claims about his health.
Prince Charles Suffered A Fall In Wales Rumor Debunked
Last year, New Idea claimed that the royal family is worried about Prince Charles’ health. At the time, an unnamed source claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry’s dad fell on the ground during his trip to Wales with Camilla. And he couldn’t allegedly get up because his swollen hands couldn’t support his weight.
However, it is not true that Prince Charles suffered a fall during his trip to Wales. And if he did, his royal aides are there to help him up.
