Prince Andrew and Princess Diana used to be very close. In fact, the in-laws were seen laughing and chatting with each other on multiple occasions when Princess Diana was still alive. Their closeness also resulted in the two royals plotting to push aside King Charles III so that he wouldn't ascend the throne.
Prince Andrew Did Not Want King Charles III To Be Monarch
In the book Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: From Outcast to Future Queen Consort, author Angela Levin claimed that Prince Andrew wanted to rule Britain one way or another. But he knew that this wouldn't happen because before King Charles III had Prince William and Prince Harry, he was only second in line to the throne.
"When Diana was alive, through her friendship with Andrew's wife Sarah, [Duchess of York] she plotted with Andrew to try to push Prince Charles aside so Prince Andrew could become Regent to Prince William, who was then a teenager. They were dark and strange times, where paranoia became reality, and this was a worry. Andrew lobbied very hard with the hope that Charles would not become king when his mother died, and that William would wear the crown," Levin wrote (via Express).

Queen Elizabeth Did Not Approve Prince Andrew's Plan To Become Regent To Prince William
The royal author also revealed that Prince Andrew tried to convince Queen Elizabeth that King Charles III shouldn't be her successor. But Her Majesty thought that the Duke of York's plans was ludicrous, so she didn't approve of them.
"They were dark and strange times, where paranoia became reality, and this was a worry. Andrew lobbied very hard with the hope that Charles would not become king when his mother died, and that William would wear the crown. His behavior was very, very negative and extremely unpleasant to Queen [Elizabeth], who disagreed. I was told it was one of the rare occasions he didn't get his way. Nonetheless, he was apparently very angry that he couldn't rule the country in some way," Levin said.
Prince Andrew, King Charles III's Relationship Became Strained
Throughout the years, there have been reports claiming that Prince Andrew and King Charles III did not always get along well with each other.
Prior to the queen's death, there were reports suggesting that the brothers' relationship was virtually non-existent. King Charles III reportedly distanced himself further from Prince Andrew after he was accused of sexual abuse.
The brothers did not also agree as to whether Prince Andrew should attend the Order of the Garter ceremony in June. The queen already allowed Prince Andrew to attend the service, but King Charles III and Prince William thought it was inappropriate, so they made sure that he wouldn't be there.
A royal expert revealed back then that Sarah Ferguson's ex-husband was enraged at the meddling of King Charles III and Prince William, according to Express.
Despite their complicated relationship, King Charles III and Prince Andrew came together following the queen's passing.
