The unreleased trailer for the canceled Powerpuff Girls live-action series recently leaked online, and it finally gave fans their first look at its supposed campy and mature take on the iconic Cartoon Network characters.
Back in 2021, The CW was working on a live-action pilot titled Powerpuff that would explore the Powerpuff Girls as adults. However, the project was canned after it was shot, and for a time, it seemed like footage from the series would never see the light of day.
That all changed, however, as fans finally got a glimpse in the recently leaked trailer.
CW's Powerpuff Girls Pilot Trailer Leaked Online
The trailer for the CW's canceled Powerpuff Girls live-action series leaked on social media recently, giving fans a glimpse at what the project's take on the titular characters as adults would have looked like.
Variety reported that sources from CW have confirmed that the footage is real, although they had no plans to release that cut of the trailer to the public.
The leaked footage would "not have passed CW standards" and there is a possibility that the leak came from a third-party vendor that worked on a cut of the trailer.
In the leaked trailer, we saw our full glimpse at Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault's version of the adult Powerpuff Girls as well as Donald Faison as Professor "Drake" Utonium.
It started with the younger version of the characters (similar to the Cartoon Network series) before they became young adults. We also learned that they accidentally killed a human version of Mojo Jojo and it led them to go into their separate lives.
Years later, the heroes returned to Townsville to fight a vengeful Jojo Jr., who has become the mayor and framed Prof. Utonium.
