Which The Suicide Squad Character Made a Surprise Appearance in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3?

Joel Kinnaman made a surprise appearance in Peacemaker season 2 episode 3, reprising his role as Rick Flag Jr. from The Suicide Squad.
He first showed up in the cold open that was set before the events of the film. He was in bed with Emilia Harcourt, and the scene confirmed that they were having an affair before the Corto Maltese mission, which ended with him being killed by Peacemaker.
The character was seen again later in the episode when Chris Smith headed to the alternate dimension and visited that version of Emilia Harcourt in the A.R.G.U.S. office.
It was revealed that Rick Flag Jr. is alive in the alternate dimension. However, he is also depicted as an insecure person who is jealous of Chris Smith as he is dating Emilia. He also tends to be clumsy in his actions, giving us a more comedic version of the character.
A lot of fans were happy to see Rick Flag Jr. again in the episode, given that his appearance was being kept under wraps before it aired. This is also an official acknowledgement that the character is part of the DCU in some capacity, albeit he is already dead in the present timeline.
Why James Gunn Decided to Bring Back Rick Flag Jr. in Peacemaker Season 2
In an interview with TV Insider, Gunn revealed that bringing back Rick Flag Jr. in the series has always been part of the plan "since before we shot Season 1, that Harcourt and Rick Flag had had an affair and were having an affair when he got killed… but beyond that they were also friends, and Economos is friends with him too."
He explained, "That’s the reason they’re so negative towards Peacemaker when he comes on board at the beginning. Even though morally, obviously, Harcourt is as fluid as Peacemaker is throughout Season 1."
The return of Rick Flag Jr. in Peacemaker was also an opportunity for Kinnaman to show his comedic side.
"Joel and I are good friends, so I asked him to do me a favor, but I also wanted to give him an opportunity to do something that’s purely comedic, because he’s a really funny guy," Gunn said.
"He’s never been in a comedy his entire life, so being able to show him doing this sort of namby-pamby version of Rick Flag Jr. Every time I watch those scenes, I laugh out loud."
