The first season of Pachinko will come to an end in a couple of days. As there are still a lot of stories to tell, will there be Pachinko Season 2?

The hopes are high for Pachinko Season 2. Not only fans want the series to continue. Even the showrunner herself, Soo Hugh, expresses her interest in continuing the story of Sunja.

The Possible Return of Pachinko Season 2

The Lee Min Ho-starrer series debuted on March 25 on AppleTV Plus. After more than a month, it is now at its eighth episode that will officially conclude the first season.

The show is based on the novel of the same name by Min Jin Lee. It tells the story of four generations of Korean immigrant family’s hopes and dreams after leaving their home country and starting a new journey in Korea, Japan and America.

Compared to other series of today, Pachinko features time and space. The story starts in 1915 Yeongdo, when Sunja is still a young girl (Yu Na Jeon) until she becomes a mother (Youn Yuh Jung).

Now that fans have seen Sunja’s life throughout the first season, will it continue in Pachinko Season 2?

Soo Hugh knows the series’ story is expansive. So, there is no way that she can tell a woman’s lifespan in just one season.

“When I pitched the show, I pitched it as four seasons,” she told Variety. “There’s no way you could tell the book’s story in one season, nor should you.”

She explained it would be a “disservice to what the book accomplished” to limit the series.

“When you think about all the characters that we have, we want to live with them and move on this journey of what a life is,” she continued. “So that was always the intention when we filmed the show. Our fingers are crossed for Season 2.”

She also told ScreenRant that the main idea is to see the characters grow and that storyline is about to come.

In fact, there is a book character who is yet to be introduced in the series.

“I think there’s no way you can tell the story just in eight episodes; it’s impossible,” Soo Hugh added. “To do it full justice, and to fall in love with the characters and really understand what they live through, it has to be the whole spectrum.”

The Possible Storyline of Pachinko Season 2

Pachinko is a trilingual series featuring English, Korean and Japanese speaking characters who are forced to travel the world to keep themselves safe and make ends meet.

So, if Pachinko Season 2 comes, more multicultural dialogues will be seen, per Distractify. Of course, there will also be deeper historical references to continue telling Sunja’s story.

The final episode of Pachinko Season 1 will drop on Friday, April 29, on Apple TV Plus. The network, however, is yet to confirm the coming of Pachinko Season 2.
