Outlander Season 8 officially marks the end of the beloved time-travel romance series. The popular series will get a final eighth season on Starz, which will have 10 episodes. The upcoming seventh season will have a longer run of 16 episodes.
Outlander Season 8 Will Not Be The End Of The Frasers
Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, discussed the conclusion of Outlander and the definitive ending of Jamie and Claire's love story.
“But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore this dynamic world and its origin story,” she said.
“We’re thrilled to continue to partner with [showrunner] Matthew Roberts, [and executive producers] Maril Davis and Ronald Moore and can’t wait to see where their alluring storytelling takes us next.”
The upcoming prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will follow the love story of Jamie Fraser's parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie. Matthew Roberts will take over as showrunner from the main series. Diana Gabaldon, the author, will act as a consultant producer.
What We Know About Outlander Season 8
The announcement of Outlander Season 8 comes fairly early in the process, with Season 7 still being in production before its anticipated summer 2023 broadcast.
After Season 6's March 2022 premiere, Season 7's production got underway. Due to COVID-19, the eight-episode Season 6 was initially postponed, but the 16-episode Season 7 will be significantly longer.
Although it won't be as long as Season 7, Outlander Season 8 will be an improvement over Season 6. The romance between Claire and Jamie will come to an end in its 10 episodes.
Executive producers Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, and Maril Davis will all return to work on the eighth and final season of Outlander. Claire was brought to the Wilmington jail in the Season 6 finale to await her trial. The Brown team separated her and Jamie, but they were unable to remove him due to Ian Murray's efforts.
The events of Season 7 are yet unknown, but the cast has promised a magnificent and bittersweet finale to the story in Outlander Season 8.

Although the title of the book on which Outlander Season 8 will be based is unknown, it may be Written in My Own Heart's Blood since it comes just after An Echo in the Bone. Season premieres have often occurred one or two years apart, but this early renewal could mean that there won't be much time between Outlander Seasons 7 and 8.
