[This article contains spoilers for the Outlander Season 6 finale.]
The recent season finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). According to executive producer Maril Davis, this was never intended to be the series finale. However, because Outlander Season 6 was cut to eight episodes, this became the season finale point. Davis revealed that one scene was pushed to Outlander Season 7.
A season finale scene got pushed to Outlander Season 7
Davis stated how the shortened season had no effect on the plot. Season 6 Episode 8 would have always ended with the mob storming Claire and Jamie's house, Claire being taken to stand trial, and Jamie breaking free to save her.
“Due to COVID and a variety of factors, we kind of realized very quickly after we started the season that we couldn’t accomplish those 12 episodes,” Davis told Variety. “It just so happened eight was a perfect point to cut it off.”
There would have been one more scene if Outlander Season 6 had a ninth episode, according to Davis. That sequence, however, can wait until Outlander Season 7, and she won't give anything away.

Outlander Season 7 begins where the last season ended
Outlander Season 7 will have to start with what would have been Episode 9 because Davis and her team originally planned for 12 episodes.
Outlander Season 7 will focus on the American Revolutionary War. One of the reasons Davis calls it the biggest yet is because of this.
“We’ve talked so much about the Revolution coming,” Davis said. “It’s like ‘winter is coming’ in Game of Thrones. Next season, the Revolution is here. It’s our biggest season yet.”
Outlander Season 7 has not been tagged with a release date yet, but it is already in production.
