Our Beloved Summer presented a realistic love story between Kim Da Mi and Choi Woo Shik's characters.
Aired on December 6, Our Beloved Summer shared the story of Choi Ung and Kuk Yeon Soo, who fell in love with each other in high school. Unfortunately, they had to end their relationship badly. After 10 years, they are forced to reunite after the documentary they filmed in high school went viral.
The young adult love story ended with a 5.3 percent rating. Although its ending had been well-received by fans, the series' creator Lee Na Eun reportedly had a different plan in her mind.

Our Beloved Summer Almost Had a Different Ending
After the series finale, Our Beloved Summer Writer Lee Na Eun spoke about how Choi Woo Shik inspired her to create Choi Woong's character. She reportedly saw him in the tvN variety show Summer Vacation. From there, the screenwriter based Choi Ung's character on the actor's personality.
For instance, Choi Woo Shik's insomnia also got incorporated to Choi Ung in the drama.
"I wrote the drama while imagining Choi Woo Shik, and thanks to a good opportunity, I had the chance to give him the script," she said. "I never imagined I'd be able to cast him. He also did a great job acting as if Choi Woong were a real person."

Though it helped her give Choi Ung and Kuk Yeon Soo the happy ending they deserve, Lee Na Eun said she almost went for a different route for the series ending. According to the screenwriter, seeing the lead characters get married in the end might be childish or cheesy.
But as she was writing the script, she realized that she wanted the duo to be happy. Because of that, she ended the drama with Choi Ung and Kuk Yeon Soo together again.
Lee Na Eun Has Plans After Our Beloved Summer
Lee Na Eun's Our Beloved Summer gave justice to the script she made. But she reportedly has a lot of dramas she wants to write in the future.
One of which is a story where there is no villain. Though it is tough in real life to go through everything without getting hurt in the process, the screenwriter reportedly aims to see people from different angles.
"Humans are three-dimensional, so I like to look at them from a number of different angles. What I'd like to keep [in my writing] up until the end is that viewpoint: looking at people three-dimensionally, instead of from one angle only," she said.
Lee Na Eun, as of the writing, does not have a new project to work on after Our Beloved Summer.
