What Will Be the Main Case in Only Murders in the Building Season 6?
As teased in the final scene of the fifth season finale, the main trio will be solving the mysterious murder of fan-favorite character Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) in the sixth season.
The series will also be heading to London for the next season, as it was revealed that Cinda was on a holiday break across the pond before she returned to New York City and was somehow murdered by an unknown suspect. She managed to find her way to the gates of the Arconia before she took her last breath.
Speaking with Variety, showrunner John Hoffman explained why he decided to bring the action to London for the sixth season after five seasons in New York City.
"Season 5 really brought it home: The meaning of that building and their home and New York itself was very much explored in this season, so [we had] this idea that of taking it back to an origin story with Cinda being what brought them all together. Their fandom of her and her podcast was how it all started," he said.
"And then taking it to [London], the origin of mystery writing. Fiction-meets-true crime storytelling and podcasting became really intriguing to me, to mix those two worlds. It’s the land of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle combined with our podcasters and what they’ve been successful with. Marrying those things in the place where the cozy murder mystery began felt really intriguing."
In a separate interview on Deadline, Hoffman also confirmed that the entire sixth season will be filmed in London, making it their first overseas shoot.
"London is New York’s sister city. There will be all sorts of connectors. We will take our storytelling and steep it into this new culture and our trio will be fish in new waters," he explained.
Who Will Star in Only Murders in the Building Season 6?
We can expect the show's main trio (Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez) to return in the sixth season. Michael Cyril Creighton will likely return as well since he is a series regular.
Tina Fey is also expected to make an appearance, since she will likely appear in flashback sequences that will showcase what Cinda was doing in London before she was murdered.
Given that the entire production will take place in London, this is an opportunity for the series to cast well-known British performers for guest or recurring roles during the season.
When is Only Murders in the Building Season 6 Coming Out?
While no premiere date or release window has been set yet, the sixth season of Only Murders in the Building will likely be released in fall 2026. The series has been releasing new seasons in an annual fashion since the beginning.
If production begins early next year (similar to the previous seasons), we can expect another fall release for the sixth season. For now, fans should wait for news and updates regarding the season.
