X Drake stabs the CP0 boss from the back. The boss tells Drake to explain himself, considering where his loyalties supposedly lie. Drake says he was driven by his own sense of justice, to which the CP0 boss says they're jealous of him. The CP0 boss aims for Drake's throat.
Meanwhile, at the Flower Capital, the Fire Festival continues. People are beginning to send their lanterns up in the sky.
Back on the rooftop, Luffy and Kaido's fight is still ongoing. Luffy continues to throw multiple punches towards Kaido, which surprises the Emperor of the Sea because Luffy's attacks bend direction — which shouldn't be normal with rubber.
Kaido enters his Drunken Beggar state, and Luffy gets mad. Kaido tells him he's not the only one who can "see the future." He switches to his Drunken Thief state and goes for Luffy, putting him in his mouth. After flying upward, he spits Luffy out and attacks with Blast Breath.
The beam shoots through the whole of Onigashima. Luffy falls off and uses Bounce-Man to hoist himself back up. He's determined to defeat Kaido, especially for the sake of Wano's people. At this point, there are probably only a few minutes left for Luffy's final Gear Four.
Kaido says the people of Wano have already accepted their defeat. As he talks about weaklings and losers, Luffy tells him to shut up because he believes the samurai are strong people. Kaido wonders if they are truly strong or simply stubborn.
The two continue to attack each other. Luffy's stamina starts failing him, but he's determined to land another hit. While they are about to hit each other again, the CP0 boss shows up, distracting Luffy.
Kaido hits Luffy. He gets a flashback from his fight with Oden after seeing the CP0 boss. There's a pained expression on his face.

One Piece Chapter 1,043 Spoilers, Summary
The narration states that Kaido has won. The CP0 boss dies, but it's not explicitly said. Meanwhile, Kawamatsu tells the samurai to escape from the fire.
Kaido shows up inside the castle and tells Momonosuke to give up. He also announces Luffy's death. Following that announcement, Kid and Law are up for a fight.
Nami doesn't believe it and says Kaido is a liar and a snake. As Kaido is about to attack Nami, Marco interferes. It looks like Kaido will keep fighting unless Momonosuke gives up.
Nekomamushi and Carrot also join the fight. Momonosuke is tempted to surrender because he doesn't want his allies to die, but Yamato tells him they'll die together.
Meanwhile, Zunesha tells Momonosuke that they heard the Drums of Liberation. Zunesha says that Joy Boy is back. Luffy's body begins to look like it's melting.
