Despite the many theories surrounding Avengers: Doomsday's plot, one of the more credible claims comes from prominent MCU leaker MyTimeToShineHello, who alleges that Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) are tasked with destroying Sam Raimi's Spider-Man universe.

According to the rumor, this mission ultimately leads to a fight between Wolverine and Spider-Man, which reportedly "ends in tragedy."

The theory has since expanded, with some claiming that Doomsday will open just before an Incursion begins in Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man universe, which is set to collide with the Fox X-Men universe.

In this version of events, the X-Men send Wolverine and Deadpool to Maguire's world before the Incursion occurs. However, Wolverine stays behind during the battle and ultimately dies alongside Spider-Man and the rest of that universe, while Deadpool escapes at the very last moment.

While the returns of Jackman, Reynolds, and Maguire in Doomsday remain unconfirmed, one shot from the trailer has fueled speculation. The scene shows Professor X (Patrick Stewart) looking out the window of the X-Mansion as a planet appears to explode in the sky, leading some fans to believe he is witnessing the destruction of Spider-Man's universe.

Based on the footage, Professor X may actually be watching the Incursion involving the X-Men's universe, possibly as it collides with Raimi's Spider-Man universe.

Fans have long hoped to see a crossover between Spider-Man and the X-Men, and if these rumors prove true, Doomsday could finally deliver the event they've been waiting for.

In addition to claims that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man universe will collide with the X-Men's universe in Avengers: Doomsday, there have also been persistent rumors that Tobey Maguire will appear in the crossover film.

The speculation has been fueled by notable insiders, including At Midnight actor and The Let's Go With the Supes podcast producer Matt Ramos, who claimed that Maguire's Spider-Man may die in Doomsday. According to the rumor, it could also be the final time fans see him wearing the iconic Spider-Man suit.

The alleged death is said to take place during the movie's opening scenes, as Spider-Man witnesses a Multiversal crack and possibly the arrival of Doctor Doom.

Adding fuel to the speculation, Maguire was reportedly spotted in London while Doomsday was filming in September 2025. However, London was also being used for the production of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, making it impossible to determine which project he was there for.

Even so, many fans believe his appearance is for Doomsday, where his Spider-Man story could conclude after his celebrated return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, as the MCU moves into its next era.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
