The Marvel Cinematic Universe continuously expands as they feature new Comic book superheroes into the MCU. The MCU has successfully brought new characters like Shang-chi, the Eternals, and the upcoming Moon Knight. One character that is rumored to be making a comeback in the MCU is none other than, The Ghost Rider.
We were first introduced to the skeleton wearing a leather jacket and a flaming head when Marvel Entertainment released 2007’s debut of Ghost Rider. Featuring the Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage, the film had a successful reputation and Johnny Blaze’s character was loved by the fans. The film is followed by a sequel, Spirit of Vengeance in 2011.
Despite the film’s successful blockbuster record for the Ghost Rider movies, Nicolas Cage has expressed disinterest in the role and clarifies in a Collider interview, “It’s possible, but it won’t be me.”
The iconic Marvel character wasn’t shown for almost a decade but in 2020, reports claimed that a Ghost Rider movie is being developed by the MCU and fans can't help to wonder who is next to play the role.
One rumor is that The Walking Dead Star Norman Reedus is going to play the part. Fans argued that Reedus is perfect for the role given his TWD performance.
Reedus’ series, The Walking Dead is now wrapping production for the final season of the series so he might be ready for new roles, specifically in the MCU. When asked by Comicbook, the actor responded, “I don’t know.”
“Fingers crossed,” Reedus added. I don't know. There's been a lot of talk over the last couple years. I do not have an answer for you." Reedus claims to be a fan of the Ghost Rider character and also motorcycles which the character is mostly known for. Fans claim that his physique is perfect to be the next Johnny Blaze. Though we don't have any confirmation yet, if by chance he accepts the role, he will be a great fit in Marvel’s growing family of superheroes.
For now, we can see Reedus in the season finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The actor has played his role as Daryl Dixon for 12 years.
The Walking Dead’s final season will return on AMC on February 20.
