A report has suggested that Nicolas Cage might not be playing Peter Parker in the Spider-Man Noir series.

It was confirmed recently that the Oscar winner will be starring in a live-action Spider-Man Nor TV series for Prime Video and MGM+ titled Spider-Noir, reprising his role from the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Fans have been speculating whether Cage is playing the 1930s Peter Parker who will take the mantle of Spider-Man Noir in the series. However, as it turns out, that might not be the case after all.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Cage will be playing the Ben Reilly version of Spider-Man Noir in the Spider-Noir series instead of Peter Parker.

There are no reasons stated regarding why Peter Parker is not taking the mantle of Spider-Man Noir, but it is speculated it might be because of the legal agreement between Sony and Marvel regarding the portrayal of the character.

So far, Sony, Prime Video, and MGM+ have not confirmed the claims that were made in the report.

In the comics, the Spider-Man Noir character is always associated with Peter Parker so this is an unusual creative choice for the hero in the series and there are a lot of changes that they may have to do in his origins.

Ben Reilly is known to be a genetic clone of Peter Parker, and it is curious to see whether that factors in on the character and his taking the mantle of Spider-Man Noir in the series.

Spider-Noir is currently preparing for its production which will reportedly take place later this year. Recently, it was reported that Lamorne Morris and Brendan Gleeson have joined the cast with the latter playing the show's main villain.

We might be hearing more details about the project in the coming weeks, and hopefully, there will be a confirmation on whether Cage will indeed play Ben Reilly in the series.
