Nick Frost, who is set to play Hagrid in HBO's Harry Potter series, has expressed his disagreement with J.K. Rowling's views on the trans community.
The Harry Potter author, who is involved as one of the producers of the HBO project, has received a lot of backlash over the last few years for her anti-trans advocacy. Fans have also criticized the adult actors who have signed on to star in the series despite Rowling's controversial views.
Why Did Nick Frost Decide to Join Harry Potter Series Despite J.K. Rowling's Controversy?
In an interview with The Observer, Frost was asked whether Rowling's controversial views on the trans community affected his decision to sign on to the Harry Potter series.
He revealed that he disabled the comments section on his Instagram account and clarified that he doesn't share the same opinion as Rowling.
"She’s allowed her opinion and I’m allowed mine, they just don’t align in any way, shape or form," Frost said.
Frost was also asked whether the backlash against Rowling may affect the reception of the series.
"I don’t know. But maybe it shouldn’t blow over? We shouldn’t just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves," he added.
Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the original film series, also weighed in recently on the impact of Rowling's controversial views on the Harry Potter franchise.
