Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo are officially making a comeback, as the release date of the new Ranma 1/2 anime is finally confirmed.
Following the Urusei Yatsura remake, it’s about time for the iconic Ranma Saotome to once again show off the curse of Jusenkyo and prove that it’s not as bad as it seems.
New Ranma 1/2 Anime Gets October Release Date
The long wait is over for classic anime fans, as Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2 manga finally gets a new anime adaptation set to be released on October 5 (effectively October 6 at 12:55 am JST) as part of the fall 2024 lineup.
The announcement was made through a live stream on the newly opened X (formerly Twitter) account of the new Ranma 1/2 anime series.
A debut trailer has also been released on the official YouTube channel of MAPPA that showcases fan-favorite characters such as Ranma and Akane.
In addition, a new visual has been released featuring the main and supporting characters of the anime, as shown below:
Ranma 1/2 first captivated audiences in the late 1980s with its unique blend of comedy, romance, and martial arts.
Now that it’s making a comeback, the new Ranma 1/2 anime is expected to capture the essence of Takahashi's work, including the beloved characters and storylines that made the series a cultural phenomenon.
Where to Watch the New Ranma 1/2 Anime
The new Ranma 1/2 anime will debut on the NTV channel in Japan. It will then be available for streaming on Netflix worldwide with English subtitles, and most likely, an English dub at a later date.
Other international streaming platforms, such as Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Disney+, have yet to confirm whether they'll also pick up the remake, so stay tuned for more information in the coming days.
What to Expect from the New Ranma 1/2 Anime
Similar to the Urusei Yatsura anime remake, the new Ranma 1/2 anime could adapt the best stories from the beloved manga series.
From Kuno challenging the female Ranma in a martial arts competition to Akane and Ranma joining a skating competition, Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma 1/2 manga series has so much content for the new anime to adapt.
It’s also expected that fan-favorite characters such as Shampoo, Ryouga Hibiki, Ukyo Kuonji, Tatewaki Kuno, and Happosai would return, as they have vital roles in the story of the action, comedy, fantasy, and ecchi manga series.
