We're still over two months away from the premiere of Mulan but now fans can get a closer look at some of the interesting new characters that will be introduced in the film. The new character posters feature Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Gong Li as the evil witch Xian Liang, and many more.
The first poster is Yifei Liu's Hua Mulan as the soldier Hua Jun.
Yen will play Commander Tung, who will serve as Mulan's mentor. The character does not appear in the animated film.
Li portrays Xian Liang, the witch who has the ability to shapeshift. Like Tung, she is a new character.
Jason Scott Lee plays Bori Khan, a Hun leader who is determined to get revenge for the death of his father. He is a completely new character as well.
Yoson An will play Chen Honghui, one of Tung's soldiers who becomes a friend and love interest of Mulan.
The only other character that also appeared in the 1998 film is the Emperor, who will be played by Jet Li. The original character was voiced by Pat Morita.
The film's synopsis reads as follows:
"When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father."
Mulan will premiere on March 27.
