Ryan Reynolds had teased a new trailer drop for Detective Pikachu today, and WB has finally delivered with a whole new trailer featuring more Pokemon than the first. What's cool is, there's a surprise appearance from the villain of the very first Pokemon film—Mewtwo.
The trailer also gives us a good clue on the plot of the film. For one, it's revealed that Detective Pikachu has actually lost all of his memories, and the only clue that leads him to protagonist Tim is the information located inside of his hat.
It looks like the movie will be embracing the ‘detective' element of the film as well, seeing as Tim and DP are seen walking around trying to solve a mystery. They even play with the noir aspect of the detective drama by giving Pikachu an addiction to caffeine.
So far, the reception for Detective Pikachu has been kind of mixed, with some people still not onboard with the realistic look of the Pokemon. Admittedly they don't look as cute as they do in the cartoons, but I'm sure everyone will be onboard by the time the first act of the film ends.
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
Catch Detective Pikachu in theaters May 10.
