Netflix just unveiled the trailer for Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror Season 7 and announced that it will feature six episodes set to arrive soon.

In recent years, the dystopian horror series faced criticism from fans for straying from the tone of earlier installments. However, the new trailer might just reel them back in.

Netflix's Black Mirror Draws Fans Back Again with Its Season 7 Trailer

Black Mirror is once again returning with a new season that will surely stimulate your thoughts and stir a range of difficult emotions. This, according to the show’s creator, Charlie Brooker, who spoke with Tudum.

Brooker revealed that the new season consists of six episodes, two of which are feature-length. It also promises “a mix of genre and style,” with some being funny, some emotional, and others deeply unsettling.

The satirist further shared that the upcoming season is “a little bit OG Black Mirror” and “back to basics in many ways,” which long-time fans have been requesting for years.

Recent installments faced criticism from viewers for being “not thought-provoking” enough and lacking the emotional intensity of earlier seasons.

Brooker also told Tudum that, for the first time in the show’s history, they’ve created a sequel to a past episode. “We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history,” he noted.

Fans may recognize familiar faces from Season 4’s “USS Callister” in the Season 7 trailer, confirming another simulated adventure in space.

The showrunner added, “Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, [but] I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human.”

In 2023, Brooker told GamesRadar that the shift in tone for Season 6 was intentional, as people were “bracketing Black Mirror as the ‘tech is bad’ show,” which didn’t reflect the series’ true message.

“The show is saying people are messed up. So, you know, ‘Get it right!’” Brooker added.

What is Black Mirror About?

For those who haven’t watched Black Mirror, Netflix describes the series as: “Twisted tales run wild in this mind-bending anthology series that reveals humanity's worst traits, greatest innovations and more.”

Fans have praised the show for evoking unsettling feelings and immersing them in an unpredictable future that could one day become reality, which leaves them deep in thought.

Some of the most chilling episodes that terrified viewers with dystopian scenarios include “White Christmas,” “Metalhead,” “White Bear,” and “Playtest.”

Black Mirror is a well-received series. However, Seasons 5 and 6 became the least favorite among fans, who claim the show shifted toward “social commentary” and drifted further from portraying the horrors of technology.

Season 7, as Brooker promised, is returning to its original roots.

The Cunk on Earth creator also mentioned that this season boasts an “embarrassingly stacked cast,” featuring Michele Austin, Ben Bailey Smith, Asim Chaudhry, Josh Finan, and many others.

Black Mirror also recently announced the addition of Awkwafina, Milanka Brooks, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, and several other stars to the new season.

Season 7 of Black Mirror is set to hit Netflix on April 10.
