Madonna has teamed up with Netflix to develop a limited series centering on her legendary life and career.
For the past few years, the music icon has been attempting to produce a feature film biopic surrounding her life, but it hasn't come to fruition. Now, it looks like it will finally happen through the small screen.
Madonna Limited Series in the Works at Netflix
It was reported that Madonna has teamed up with Netflix and Shawn Levy to develop a limited series based on her life story and music.
The project is a start from scratch, and it is not an iteration of the planned biopic that the music icon was developing before she decided to stop its development.
It is unknown yet whether Julia Garner, who was cast to play Madonna in the biopic project, will be retaining the role in the limited series, but the report suggested that it is most likely that she will play her subject to availability.
There are also no details yet on whether Madonna will also write or direct the series.
So far, Netflix has not set a release window or production timetable since the project is still in early development at this point.
Madonna's Past Comments on the Biopic Project
Madonna has been discussing the planned biopic for the last few years as she attempted to bring her life and music to the screen.
"I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter. I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs," she said in a past interview with Variety.
Regarding her decision to do a biopic, the singer explained, "I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film. It was also a preemptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one’s going to tell my story, but me.'"
