Netflix Announces New Ghost In The Shell Anime

Netflix is really going all-out with its anime line-up. The streaming giant has just confirmed that they are developing a new Ghost In The Shell series.

The announcement was made on the official NX on Netflix Twitter account. The post reveals the new anime title as well as a possible release date. Check it out below.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be directed by Appleseed's Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who previously worked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. From the looks of it, SAC_2045 will be a sequel to Stand Alone Complex. The new series is expected to have 24 episodes and last for at least two seasons.

This is certainly exciting news for fans who have been hoping to see the Major back in action. It has been a while since Stand Alone Complex concluded and Kamiyama's involvement could guarantee that the new anime will be amazing.

The most recent Ghost In The Shell project has been the 2017 film starring Avengers: Endgame actress Scarlett Johansson. The movie's decision to cast a white actor to play the Major was not accepted well by fans who were hoping to see a Japanese star portray Motoko Kusanagi. Although the film tried to explain why Johansson was brought in for the role, it was still a major box office flop.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 has not yet been given an official release date. However, the new anime is expected to premiere on Netflix by 2020.
