Netflix just revealed that the upcoming fourth season of The Umbrella Academy would be the final season for the series. Fans are in a swirl of emotions after Netflix tweeted out the announcement. The events that happened in The Umbrella Academy Season 3 threw everything into turmoil. But, the creators of the show have hinted that the final season of the show would bring closure to the fans in their previous interviews.
Netflix interviewed showrunner Steve Blackman about the world that his characters are currently heading into after the wild events during the Season 3 finale. "This new timeline has been dictated by Hargreeves, who reprogrammed the Universe at the end of the Season 3 finale. But because of Allison's actions, he didn't get to finish what he started before Allison pressed the reset button," Blackman explained. "So, the siblings losing their powers isn't going to be the only oddity in this timeline. There are new enemies who want to see them wiped out of existence, but how do they manage without their powers? Is there even a way to get them back? The stakes have never been greater."
During a recent interview with The Wrap, Blackman teased that the endgame was on the way. "I think inevitably if we got a Season 4, it's going towards an endgame," Blackman teased during the interview. "I think at a certain point, I'm not sure where we'd go after Season 4. We have to be careful. My plan for next year is not to continually tread on the same ground we have before. It's a challenge to come up with a new way to subvert this storyline, and I think we have an idea how to do that. But I think if we got to Season 4, it would be a great ending for the run of the show. I'm not saying I couldn't do more, but you know, I think that would be very satisfying for the audience, four seasons."
In a previous interview with TVLine, Blackman revealed that his original vision for the series spanned for only four seasons. “I have what I think is an end to the TV show,” Blackman said during the interview. “Netflix may want more than that, but I have a sweet thought of where I think the show should end and where we’re going.” (Fans of the source material can rest easy, though: Blackman reassured us that Way “wants to do stuff for another decade, and he’s going to do volumes and volumes.”)
The cast of The Umbrella Academy Season 4 includes Elliot Page, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Justin H. Min, Tom Hopper, and Aidan Gallagher.
As of now, there has been no announcement from Netflix about the release date for The Umbrella Academy Season 4.
