National Treasure: Edge of History is about to make its way to Disney+, but is there a chance for the original National Treasure actor Nicolas Cage to appear in the series? By the looks of it, showrunner and the movie’s co-writer Cormac Wibberley has the best answer for it.
Though there’s no concrete decision to include Cage in National Treasure: Edge of History, Wibberley seems to leave the door open. Does this mean fans will once again see the legendary actor as Ben Gates?
The TV Adaptation of Nicolas Cage’s National Treasure Movie Series
National Treasure: Edge of History is the TV adaptation of Cage’s 2004 action-adventure movie.
In the series, the 58-year-old actor’s role will be replaced by Lisette Olivera’s Jess Valenzuela, a 20-year-old dreamer who wants to recover a lost treasure while exploring the mystery surrounding her family’s history.
Though the first National Treasure film didn’t enjoy critical success, it became a fan-favorite movie of the 2000s.

Cage played the role of Gates, a historian who worked to find the Templar Treasure before a team of mercenaries did so. A second movie, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, came, and there was a plan for National Treasure 3, though it was yet to materialize.

He said,
“[It would be like] Tony Stark gets to visit Peter Parker. That's basically how we saw the relationship if Ben Gates ever showed up. She's basically Peter Parker to him and would be like, 'Oh my God, it's Ben Gates! What do I do?' That's how our universe is.”
Wibberley added that he’s also open to bringing in other veterans from the movie to the series.
