My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 sees the return of Jackie in Colorado, but Alex has changed from the first time she met him. Alex, who is generally considered the “problematic” and typical “nice” guy since season 1, became romantically involved with his coach on the ranch.
WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for My Life with the Walter Boys season 2, so proceed with caution.
What’s Up Between Alex and His Ranch Coach in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2?
Alex, who is depicted to be 16-17 years old (played by 26-year-old Ashby Gentry), gets romantically entangled with his 18-year-old ranch coach, Blake, who’s only supposed to teach him his new hobby of saddle bronc riding.
While Alex underwent a summer glow-up transformation, the significant age gap and power play between Alex and Blake didn’t make sense to fans at all.

The Walters' parents hired Blake to specifically train Alex, which should have already put her in a difficult position. However, it didn’t.
The second season played off their kiss and romantic endeavor as though it was normal, even though the age gap was glaringly visible, and bothered fans throughout.
“People be shipping Alex and Blake and it’s weird. He’s 16 and she’s 18 and not even in high school,” one fan wrote on Reddit, “Why was she flirting with a minor???”
Another chimed in, “I know they said she was 18, but the lady was like a foot taller than him, so it felt predatory at times… you are a whole adult salty that a high schooler doesn’t want to date you? It was weird to me.”
“Alex’s coach looks older than 18, and as his coach, she is an authority figure, so a relationship between them would be inappropriate,” another fan agreed.
Heck, even Ashby himself had some qualms about the controversy behind that dynamic, as he previously told PEOPLE, “Yeah, the age thing was — I was like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know how this is going to go over.’”
Thankfully, Alex and his coach didn’t really end up together, and it was thanks to Alex making his choice: it’s still been Jackie all along. We may have gotten past the age gap controversy, but the whole Jackie love triangle thing is another problematic factor, even in season 2.
Could Jackie Ever Really Choose Between Alex and Cole?

It’s one thing to gain a love triangle between two best friends, but Alex and Cole Walter are brothers, for one.
Seeing how My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 unfolded, fans are convinced Jackie is only enjoying the attention and affection from two boys while stringing them along with her indecisiveness to choose only one guy to date and make out with.
Even though the future seems uncertain with Jackie’s love story, the original book ending leaned on Cole being her endgame. It’s unimaginable how much frustration the OG readers are feeling over Netflix intentionally dragging the plot along with each season.
Fans waited two years for season 2, only to still get left behind with a cliffhanger on their tails. How is this a fair ending? Jackie also needs to toughen up and decide which one of them she genuinely likes (which is obviously Cole).
