The new Mortal Kombat 2 trailer just dropped. If you're a Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) fan, you'll be pleased to hear that he'll look to have a central role in the upcoming film, with the likes of Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), Baraka (CJ Bloomfield), and more getting some spotlight as well.
2021's Mortal Kombat made roughly $84 million at the box office on a budget of $55 million. While it may not sound promising on paper, it's worth noting that it premiered amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, with most of its success achieved through streaming on HBO Max.
For the sequel, the trailer and marketing highly suggest that Johnny Cage will likely be the main focus of the story. It makes sense, as he's one of the most renowned actors in the cast.
This sequel will focus on the actual Mortal Kombat tournament. As established in the previous movie, the Earthrealm was on a nine-tournament losing streak, meaning that a 10th defeat would let the Outerrealm conquer it. The tournament never quite came to pass thanks to Shang-Tsu's antics, but he doesn't seem to be around anymore to stop it (although he is confirmed to be in the movie in some form).

Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) can also be spotted duking it out with none other than Bi-Han (Joe Taslim), the first Sub-Zero from the previous film, now known as Noob Saibot.
