After a delay, the Mononoke film finally got a new teaser that revealed its mysterious official title and July theatrical release date in Japan.
This upcoming anime film is unlike your typical movie, as it features an avant-garde style.
This should make it right up the alley of fans who want to watch something much different from today’s popular shonen or isekai titles.
All You Need to Know about the Mononoke Anime Film
The Mononoke anime film is a new project that follows the original 2007 Mononoke series by Toei Animation, which itself is a spinoff of the Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales horror anime from 2006.
Mononoke follows a Medicine Seller whose name is not revealed as he encounters various spirits he must exorcise.
The original TV anime had only 12 episodes that were divided into five storylines. Each storyline features a new cast, with the Medicine Seller the only recurring character.
In a way, you can think of this anime as something like Mushishi, though its visuals are much more colorful and unique.
To celebrate its 15th anniversary, an anime film was announced back in June 2022, and it will be produced by Twin Engine. While it was originally set to be released in 2023, its premiere was delayed to 2024.
