Aside from being an actress, the 55-year-old is also a writer and translator.
She started her career as a child actress on Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life in the late 1970s until she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Tempest.
As she grew up, she became a teen idol and was part of John Hughes' teen movies, like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink, making her a member of the famous Brat Pack.
Her last teen roles were in For Keeps and Fresh Horses.

Come the late 1980s to the early 1990s, she led the films King Lear, The Pick-Up Artist, Strike It Rich, and Betsy's Wedding.

Molly Ringwald Escaping Teen Image and Refusing Doing Pretty Woman
In an interview with The Guardian, Ringwald revealed her life in Hollywood and why she refused to do the iconic movie Pretty Woman.
The actress made a name as the new "It" girl with the teen movies she made. However, she found it difficult to escape her teen image and do other roles.
"I didn't really feel like darker roles were available to me," she said. "The ones that I wanted to do; I didn't get. I was too young for certain roles. I was at this weird in-between stage."

As she tried to figure out the roles that would best suit her, she ended up refusing several projects, like Pretty Woman. She was supposed to play the role of Vivian Ward, popularly played by Julia Roberts.
Though the film brought Roberts' popularity to an all-new height, Ringwald revealed she "didn't really like the story."
"Even then, I felt like there was something icky about it," she stated.
The film, directed by Garry Marshall, tells the story of the sex worker, Vivian (Roberts), hired by a businessman, Edward Lewis (Richard Gere), to be his date for some social events, and they end up falling in love.

After the movie's success, Roberts received an Oscar nomination for her role.
Aside from Pretty Woman, Ringwald also refused to do The Silence of the Lambs and Working Girl.
