Miley Cyrus recently revealed that she was not allowed to perform the songs from Hannah Montana after leaving Disney.
As everyone knows, the Grammy-winning singer made her breakthrough in the hit Disney Channel show. However, after it ended its run, she never performed any of the songs again, and fans have been wondering whether she has abandoned that era.
Why Was Miley Cyrus Not Allowed to Perform Hannah Montana Songs?
In a recent interview with The Ringer, Cyrus revealed that she was not allowed by Disney to perform any of the Hannah Montana songs after she left.
She also explained that she had no plans to include the Hannah Montana songs in her setlist at that time.
"After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the Hannah Montana music. It’s not like I wanted to, I mean, performing ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ between ‘We Can’t Stop’ and ‘Wrecking Ball,’ wouldn’t have really made sense," the singer said.
However, Cyrus was sad that she was forbidden to use the songs, given how her image and voice helped them come to life.
"It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them," she added.
Is Miley Cyrus Now Allowed to Perform the Hannah Montana Songs?
Fortunately for fans, the restriction is no longer in effect today, as Cyrus has now been allowed by Disney to perform the Hannah Montana songs.
It was lifted after Cyrus was bestowed with the Disney Legend honor last year.
"But after being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool," she said.
While there are no plans anytime soon for Cyrus to perform any of the Hannah Montana songs on the live stage, this is still exciting news for long-time fans of the singer who have been clamoring for her to channel her iconic character again.
