Mieruko-chan, a horror manga series by Tomoko Izumi, received a well-received anime adaptation in 2021. Fans have been hoping for a second season ever since, but the upcoming live-action movie may be exciting news for some.

While the announcement has received some positive reactions, others are less enthusiastic about the film. Let’s take a closer look at the Mieruko-chan live-action adaptation and see what everyone is saying about it!

Mieruko-chan Live-Action Film: Everything We Know So Far

The anime adaptation of Mieruko-chan, made by Passione, entertained many fans with its blend of horror, comedy, and ecchi elements.

It did quite well, despite fans preferring the manga more because of Tomoko Izumi’s ability to draw stylized creepy art, which has been serialized in KadoComi (formerly ComicWalker) since 2018.

Since the first season’s 12-episode run ended, there has been no news about Mieruko-chan Season 2. However, an announcement about a live-action adaptation of Tomoko Izumi’s series surfaced in October 2024.

Recently, Kadokawa released a promotional image and video for the film on its official site, also updating fans that the movie is scheduled to premiere on June 6, 2025, in Japan.

The teaser trailer shows the protagonist, Miko Yotsuya, played by Nanoka Hara. As in the manga and TV anime, Miko is seen trying to live her high school life normally and pretending not to see ghosts.

However, pretending becomes a challenge when Miko’s gluttonous best friend, Hana Yurikawa, played by Rinka Kumada, is constantly surrounded by terrifying spirits.

Other main cast members for the film include Naenano as Yuria Niguredo and Koki Yamashita as Akio Gondo. Sora Amamiya, who voiced the protagonist in the anime, will serve as the narrator for the movie.

There are no updates yet on where the movie will be streaming internationally, but those interested in watching it can stay tuned for more announcements about its global release.

How Fans Reacted to the Mieruko-chan Live-Action Announcement

The excitement for Mieruko-chan Season 2 has returned with the news of its live-action making waves in the community.

Although the movie signals that the franchise is still active, reactions on the X platform have been mixed, with fans expressing varied opinions about the Mieruko-chan film adaptation.

Some users commented on receiving a movie instead of a second season, with one even referencing Grand Theft Auto VI, joking that Mieruko-chan would be released before the game:

Meanwhile, some fans are looking forward to the movie. Others are even intrigued enough to wonder why no ghosts are shown in the trailer:

Season 2 of Mieruko-chan may not arrive this year, as author Tomoko Izumi updates the manga infrequently, and there isn’t enough material for a TV adaptation.

In the meantime, fans can check out the manga, which has been receiving new chapters each month. With this steady progress, a second season may not be too far off.
