What's the Verdict on Michael Madsen's Cause of Death?
Five days after the actor was found dead at his home in Malibu, California, NBC4 Los Angeles reported on Tuesday, July 8, that Madsen's cardiologist confirmed he died from heart failure.
According to the outlet, his doctor said heart failure would be listed as the cause of death, whereas heart disease and alcoholism were stated to be contributing factors to the case.
The outlet also noted that no autopsy will be performed as Madsen's cardiologist signed his death certificate, therefore leading the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department to close the investigation.
Ultimately, they listed that his death came from natural causes.
According to TMZ's sources, Madsen had been reportedly sober in the recent months that led up to his passing.
Despite the years he spent in rehabilitation programs and his commitment to battling alcohol addiction, his struggles with depression and a troubled marriage (as well as the loss of his son) had become driving factors that turned into his life's biggest obstacles.

The Donnie Brasco actor's managers, Smith and Susan Ferris, and publicist Liz Rodriguez stated after his death, "Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, who will be missed by many."
Apparently, over the last two years, Madsen has been working on independent films, which include upcoming features such as Resurrection Road, Concessions, and Cookbook for Southern Housewives.
Apart from film projects, Madsen was also preparing to release a new book called Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems, which is currently being edited, according to his managers.
The most notable yet heartbreaking tribute came from Madsen's own sister, Virginia, who spoke her piece to Variety: "My brother Michael has left the stage."
"We're not mourning a public figure," Virginia continued, "We're not mourning a myth — but flesh and blood and ferocious heart. Who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes — gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable — half legend, half lullaby."
"I'll miss our inside jokes, the sudden laughter, the sound of him," Virginia said, all the while thanking everyone who supported and loved him in his lifetime and his memories, "I'll miss the boy he was before the legend; I miss my big brother."
