Meghan Markle gained many fans and critics after she married Prince Harry. One body language expert weighed in on why many don't like the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle Speaks Like She Talks To Children All The Time?
Body language analyst Spidey talked about Markle and why many dislike her in a video for his The Behavioral Arts YouTube channel. According to her, Markle uses "exaggerated facial expressions" and "exaggerated illustrators" to emphasize her points as if she's talking to children. This strategy reportedly doesn't work on adults.
"Adults do not like to be spoken to the way kids are spoken to. And we know this, we study this. We stay away from this," Spidey said, Showbiz CheatSheet reported.
"And that distinction, that fact that we know that adults don't like to be spoken to the way children are spoken to, is the reason that I believe a lot of people — even if they don't really know why — do not like Meghan Markle," Spidey shared. "Because she speaks the way you would speak to children."
He pointed out how Markle used big hand gestures while describing the elephant outside their tent when he and Prince Harry were in Bostwana in one episode of their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan. According to him, Markle did it for emphasis. However, "it's so exaggerated, that subconsciously it feels fake."
"And she doesn't only do this when she tells stories, she does this a lot when she talks. The facial expressions are exaggerated, the gestures are exaggerated. But then she might start whispering at some point."
Meghan Markle Tried To Be Relatable In Harry & Meghan?
Spidey also commented on Marke's response when asked why they did the documentary. Prince Harry's wife said it was not comfortable, which the expert said was a "non-answer statement."
He added that Markle used a delaying tactic to probably think of a good answer. The delaying tactic reportedly gives the person a "moment to spin it right." He also argued that Markle wasn't comfortable with what she was doing.
"I don't see discomfort, especially in this moment. It's very rare that when we're uncomfortable, we expose our neck," he explained. "Usually discomfort is, we close in, we're guarded. So you're saying you're not comfortable, but your body language is saying different."
Spidey speculated that Markle said it was not comfortable to do the docuseries because she wanted to draw attention and make the audience curious. Second, he believed Meghan Markle was trying to be relatable.
"But the second, and bigger reason I think she started with that, is because Meghan often makes attempts to be relatable," he said.
"She's trying to be relatable because she knows that to most people, it's uncomfortable to be in front of a camera, to tell your story… so by saying that, I don't think she's speaking to her discomfort, I think she's speaking to the discomfort most people would feel in a situation like this in order to connect."
