Meghan Markle has sparked rumors that she will be running for office for years. However, she hasn't addressed those speculations. A recent report revealed that Archewell Foundation paid Michelle Obama's former press secretary chief.
Meghan Markle Reportedly Paid Michelle Obama's PR Secretary
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Archewell Foundation paid Obaam's former press chief, Katie McCormick Lelyveld's public relations firm, over $100,000, Radar Online reported. The firm is known for working with political campaigns and candidates, prompting some to wonder whether Markle is running for office.
Archewell's payment to the firm was listed as "strategic support for social impact PR."
Lelyveld worked with the Obamas from 2007 to 2011. She has also worked with Hillary Clinton and former presidential candidate John Kerry.
The rumors about Markle joining the political race started when she and her husband, Prince Harry, held a private meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. Newsom's office said it was a "welcoming meeting" because the Sussexes decided to settle in California.
However, the duchess seemed keen on keeping herself in the loop with various causes that involve politics. For instance, she penned a letter to Congress in 2021, calling them to pass a federally paid leave for all.
Is Meghan Markle Running For Office?
Several royal experts have commented on the rumors about Meghan Markle joining the political race. British journalist and investigative reporter Tom Bower, author of Revenge, was among them.
He spoke on MailPlus' Palace Confidential podcast in 2022 and was convinced that Markle had a good chance of accomplishing that goal.
Bower said:
"She's a very good-looking woman, she's sassy, she's got her issues like parental rights – there have been worse people who have been congresswomen, so there's a good chance."
However, he also warned Markle of potential problems she might encounter along the way, which involved her being too sensitive.
Bower added:
"Her problem is twofold: One is that it's very badly paid and Meghan needs a lot of money to live, and secondly, you've got to be pretty tough in a political fight. Whether she has the ability to be so tough and insensitive to go with the rocks and rolls, we'll see – she can't sue people as she'd like to in Britain for attacking her."
Although some had already commented on the rumors about Markle possibly joining the presidential race in the future, her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., denied the speculations that she had set her eyes on the Oval Office.
Markle's dad said on GB News:
"From beginning to end, I think it's a complete joke. I don't think she has any ambition to be a mayor. I don't think she has any ambition to be a governor or president. I don't think that's in her mind at all."
Do you believe that Markle paid Michelle Obama's former PR secretary because she's joining politics in the future?
