Megan Thee Stallion is setting the record straight: the 30-year-old rap phenom was never banned from the Met Gala despite persistent rumors. Here's what actually unfolded during the 2025 fashion spectacle.
Was Thee Stallion Banned From the Met Gala? Rumor Explained
Upon celebrating her table with WNBA player Angel Reese and Doechii, fans pointed out that Stallion was evidently breaking the gala's "no phones allowed" rule. Of the few Met Gala rules, the no phones part should've sunk deeper for guests who attended.
What bothered fans was that Stallion's line on the Instagram video she posted explicitly said that her action was intentional: "We're not supposed to have our phones, but we're doing it [anyway]", according to PEOPLE. But has now been edited to "Hottie Cam in thee MET GALA."
While others cheered, "Thank you for this forbidden footage, sis," and hyped up the potential collaboration with Doechii, "Are we getting a Doechii and Meg song?" The party police pointed out that she might have been banned thanks to "exposing herself."
However, despite the no phones rule, this doesn't stop the Met Gala guests from snapping away their annual bathroom selfies. Does it really make that much of a difference for Megan to post a short clip of her company at her table? Here's what she has to say.
The 'Savage' Rapper Didn't Let Those Rumors Slide
"No. We're gonna dead these rumors right now, okay?" the Hot Girl Summer songwriter personally cleared things up with PEOPLE on May 13, "People are like, 'Oh my God, Megan, you got banned from the Met Gala.' No, I didn't, babe. Like that's not true."
"Y'all made that up and ran with it. They love making [stuff up]," Megan continues to say, how Anna Wintour, Vogue's editor-in-chief and one of the organizers for the annual gala, is giving her a pass on that, "Anna loves me, babe. That's why my phone was out."
If anything, Megan Thee Stallion's little "filming contraband" is less crowded than what another star had done in the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5.
The Finch and Spider-Man actress, Laura Harrier, posted a bathroom selfie featuring Quinta Brunson, Ego Nwodim, Andrew Scott, LaKeith Stanfield, Sarah Snook, Keith Powers, Brian Tyree Henry, Monica Barbaro, Jeremy Pope, and Justice Smith.
Another was Lewis Hamilton, one of the 2025 gala co-chairs, with a video that had Tracee Ellis Ross, Cynthia Erivo, Caleb McLaughlin, Ayo Edebiri, Colman Domingo, and his husband Raúl, among others.
During the event, Megan had a custom-designed sparkling silver gown by Michael Kors with a white fur coat to top it all off like whipped cream, in favor of the gala night's theme, "Tailored for You" dress code.
"I wear at least 10-pound wigs all the time," Megan added, "I put a lot of bundles in my hair, so my neck is pretty strong."
She even went on to joke about her neck's strength, "I'm surprised [my neck] doesn't have abs, but yeah. My hair was definitely light work. That was lightweight. That was a regular day."
