IU is waving the independent women's flag as she snags five awards at the 2021 Melon Music Awards.
The phenomenal soloist has been making craze with her melodic voice ever since her debut in 2008.
Since then, she has made her own shining name between countless debuts of idol groups. Her mainstream success, “Good Day,” settled on top of South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart for five consecutive weeks. The title track for the 2010 album Real also ranked No.1 on Billboard’s “100 Greatest K-pop Songs of the 2010s,” which further proved her prowess as a female solo artist.
Year after year, IU has stamped her name and voice on every awards show and end-of-the-year festival, taking home countless awards that recognize her impeccable talent.
And another one of the many is from the 2021 Melon Music Awards, which recently commenced on December 4.
IU Wins Five Trophies From The 2021 Melon Music Awards
The 2021 Melon Music Awards became a memorable day for IU and her fans as she took home a total of five awards, including two daesang (grand prize), which was a first for her.
IU would win only one grand prize and some minor awards in the previous years. But on December 4, the songstress snagged two grand prizes: Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.
The “Lilac” singer’s acceptance speech was filled with emotion and gratitude. Her genuine heart and kindness as she acknowledges all the other artists’ hard work and efforts during her speech send warmth, and no wonder she is called the Nation’s Little Sister.
IU has also mentioned how the pandemic affected the industry and how the empty crowd feels while standing on stage. “We are now in a situation where we can fill the audience seats little by little. So, if we endure a little bit, the time will come when you can all scream and shout when we come on the stage for you.”
IU also extended her desire to meet her fans, UAENA, as soon as possible. As she is known to have a strong bond and connection with her fans, it is a difficult situation where they can’t even hear each other’s voices.
In addition to Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, IU also received the Best Songwriter Award, Best Female Artist, and Top 10 Artist.
