Esta Spalding, the executive producer and showrunner of Mayfair Witches, discussed the show's link to Interview With The Vampire during the AMC panel at the recent Critics Association presentation.
The Connection Between Mayfair Witches and Interview With the Vampire
Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), a pediatric neurosurgeon, learns she is the heir to a long line of witches in Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches. Similar to the 1994 film, Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire centers on Louis de Pointe du Lac, a centuries-old vampire played by Jacob Anderson, who decides to tell a journalist about his past, including the time he met and fell in love with Lestat (Sam Reid).
The two series are based on novels written by the late best-selling author Anne Rice, as the titles suggest. The new AMC shows are an opportunity to go deeper into that supernatural world and construct an ambitious story that spans several generations.
How the Mayfair Witches-Interview With The Vampire Crossover Could Happen
Spalding revealed in the panel that a crossover would happen soon. She said there was a character who appeared in both series, and she was "waiting for somebody to figure out" who it was.
Mark Johnson, the executive producer, reinforced her words and added that more connections might take many different forms.
“[Mayfair Witches and Interview With the Vampire are] completely separate on one hand, but thematically, just in terms of Anne Rice’s — the way she deals with characters and the way she presents them — we want to find a way to have that all fluid throughout the various shows,” Johnson said.
“I think if we continue you will see a lot of connections, both in terms of characters, in terms of geography — some of them sort of fun, some of them almost like Easter eggs, and we very much want to tie the worlds together in a way that makes sense.”
