After it was announced that Marvel's Star Wars comic would end with Star Wars #75 and the one-shot Star Wars: Empire Ascendant, which is expected to set up The Empire Strikes Back. Looks like fans won't be without an ongoing Star Wars comic for long since it was announced that Marvel's Star Wars will officially relaunch this January, with former Darth Vader writer Charles Soule handling the writing while Doctor Strange artist Jesus Saiz handles art duties.
More details were revealed by Star Wars.com, confirming that the new series will take place after The Empire Strikes Back but before The Return of the Jedi. This is uncharted territory since the majority of Star Wars comics tend to take place before Empire Strikes Back or after The Return of the Jedi.
Writer Charles Soule is hoping to address some questions fans have been asking, like how do the Rebels form a huge fleet to take on The Empire. Here's what Soule had to say about this new series:
"How does the Rebellion go from this rag tag scattered group that lost at Hoth to the hugely mobilized massive fleet that takes on Death Star II? How is the mission to save Han planned? The idea that I get to leap into answering some of those questions… It's not just an incredible opportunity. It's a responsibility. So much happens in Empire and then everyone seems to be in this totally different, reset place at the beginning of Jedi."
Considering Soule's experience on Star Wars comics - Darth Vader and Poe Dameron for those that are curious - this should be a solid and entertaining experience. Jesus Saiz is also one hell of an artist and his preview illustrations below look killer. If you love the franchise, December and January are going to be great back-to-back months.
