Marvel’s Jim Starlin Uncertain About Adam Warlock’s Future In The MCU

The end credit scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 might have teased the arrival of Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, with James Gunn off the director's seat, fans can no longer be sure of the character's future in the franchise. Even legendary comic book artist Jim Starlin isn't sure anymore.

Starlin just recently attended this year's Ace Comic-Con (via ComicBook.com), and while chatting with fans, the comic book writer opened up about his thoughts on Warlock's place in the MCU. Though Starlin admits that he isn't privy to the on-goings of Marvel itself, he does know that the studio does have "master plan" that goes beyond all of the movies it has.

"At the time we're recording this, the third Guardians movie is on indefinite hold. I don't know what's going to happen. I have my suspicions who they're going to use for a director, but I'm not in that loop, so my guess is as good as anything you read online. So how much of Gunn's script remains, how much of the game plan using Warlock in this movie and maybe down the line, you know, Marvel has their own master plan that supersedes all the movies. Feige is basically the captain of that ship, so I don't know what he has planned, but I have high hopes that we'll see old Adam coming to life."

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had a lot of plans for the Marvel Cosmic Universe before Disney decided to fire Gunn over insensitive and inappropriate tweets made fourteen years in the past. However, while Gunn is no longer set to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel has specifically said that it would be following much of the director's script for the movie, meaning that whatever plans the director has for Warlock may remain in the MCU.

Let's cross our fingers and wait and see.
